International Academic Conference on Underground Space was held in Beijing, China

　On November18-19, 2006, an International Academic Conference on Underground Space was held in Beijing, China, whose theme is “Resource-effective City & Underground Space Using”. It was organized by the China Civil Engineering Society(CCES), Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering （ CSRME ）and Urban Planning Society of China(UPSC). The content of conference included academic paper communication, exhibition on urban underground space planning and exhibition on examples of large urban underground space etc.

　Mr. Qian Qihu ,the Academician of ACE made a speech on Evaluation of the Status Quo and Outlook of the Urban Underground Space Development and Utilization in China. Mr. Jacques Besner (Secretary-general, ACUUS) What is the best for controlling the urban underground space development: a Master plan or a regulatory approach, Henry liu(President, ISUFT) Use of pneumatic capsule pipeline for both underground freight transport and tunnel construction, the ITA president Harvey Parker, The Sustainable development and underground space utilization . More than two hundreds experts and representatives from sixteen countries attended this conference and exchanged their papers. It came to a great successful end.

　At the occasion of conferences, The ITA president and Secretary General visited China Civil Engineering Society, met the representative of the CCES. The ITA and the CCES also discussed on the candidature of China to host the WTC’2012 and the ITA 38th ITA General Assembly.
